Information about
Koh Kho Khao in Thailand

Kho Khao Island is located on the Andaman
coast about twelve kilometers west of Takuapa, the district capital,
and only about 20 minutes north of Khao Lak, the tourism center of
the area.

The island is an easy day trip from Khao Lak
and even a day trip from Phuket is possible.
The island still has traces of an ancient
civilization on the east central area. Archeologists presume
that the island and its harbor were part of a trading route linking
India, China, the Middle East and Malaysia.
The The archeologial site "Tung Tuk" bears evidence of the past.
There is a statue of Gnesh, ancient beads, remains ofpottery made
during the Tang Dynasty of China and Persian glass fragments have
also been discoverd.
Kho Khao Iland covers an area of 64 square
kilometers with a variety of vegetation including mangroves, hill
evergreens and grass fields..
Agriculture is evident with the cultivation of
various fruits, rubber trees, oil palms and pineapple.
The
beaches along the western coast are often used by sea turtles
coming ashore to lay their eggs.
