The Tsunami Memorial
at Baan Nam Khem:
just off Kho Khao Island

The memorial at Baan Nam Khem, on the
mainland, just off Kho Khao Island is simple, beautiful and
heartbreaking all at the same time.
Commemorating the Boxing Day 2004 tsunami that
left many dead and injured, the site is very worth a visit when
traveling to the Kho Khao Island area.
Take the ferry to the mainland and follow the
main road for about a kilometer. Watch carefully for the sign, the
route to the memorial is well marked. People at some of the shops
in the area know enough English to help direct you if you get lost.
It is not a huge area - you can't get too far off track.

The symbolic wall of water, also a shrine,
as you will see in the next photo:

Many of these on the wall. You can still
feel what happened when standing here, and the loss of so many.
